Ceramic Pro Open House

by Dan Tackett

Our friends at Ceramic Pro opened their new facility on Miramar Road early this year, and now that it has fully evolved as they envisioned, our members were invited to see it in person and learn how they make cars look their best. The shop features several pristine work bays, some lifts for cleaning wheels and lower panels, a glass wall between the waiting area and the shop, and a mezzanine overhead to observe their technicians at work.

About 25 members of our Chapter and the M Chapter enjoyed the hospitality of Ceramic Pro, with a DJ spinning tunes and a caterer providing fresh tacos. After an introduction, they demonstrated their processes live on members’ cars as we got to watch. One car was in for an annual refresh of an 8 year old ceramic coating. They began with a deep cleaning, from a foam cannon wash to claying to remove contaminants. The M2’s thorough detailing included the interior and the wheels, then the liquid ceramic coating was applied and buffed to look like new again. An i4 in for its first treatment received the final coat of 3 layers of Ceramic Pro’s proprietary coating. In the days before, they had done careful paint correction with color sanding where needed, then high-speed buffing to bring back its original shine. The paint and wheels already had their initial coating, so we could watch the final layer and buffing before it was finished. A new X3 got window tinting, where we saw how the film was precisely cut on the outside of the windows before being applied to the inside. We learned that nearly clear film may be applied on the windshield to provide extra UV protection without dimming the driver’s view.

It was an impressive display of how our cars can have their original finish preserved for the years of our ownership. Ceramic paint protection makes the car easier to keep clean with a much harder finish than conventional wax. Afterwards, each pre-registered member received a discount offer for future services; they also offer an ongoing discount to BMW CCA members. We appreciated the hospitality of Ceramic Pro, especially the technicians who came to work on a Sunday to demonstrate for us exactly how they protect cars.
